IS SUGAR THE MOST DANGEROUS DRUG OF OUR TIME?

By Olumide T. Agunbiade
Glucose is the primary fuel for the human brain, but what happens when the brain is exposed to the excessive added sugars of the standard global diet?
Elevated blood glucose damages blood vessels, and this blood vessel damage is the major cause of vascular diabetes complications, such as retinopathy. The vessels in the brain can also become damaged by hyperglycemia, and there is evidence that this damage contributes to a progressive decline in brain function.

Obasanjo Attacks Jonathan Again, Accuses President of Squandering Oil Savings

President Jonathan and Former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
By Olumide T. Agunbiade
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has again launched a public attack on President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of squandering $25billion crude oil savings left behind by his administration.
Mr. Obasanjo made the allegation while hosting the South-West women leaders at his residence in Abeokuta Monday.
He said his administration left over $25 billion to his successor, Musa Yar’adua, who raised the sum to $35 billion.
Mr. Obasanjo said he also left $40billion in Nigeria’s foreign reserve account after paying the outstanding debt at the time.
He said former President Yar’adua also raised the reserves to $60billion.
Under President Jonathan, the reserves has plummeted to $40billion, Mr. Obasanjo said.
The new claims followed a series of public denunciation of Mr. Jonathan’s government by the former president.

Will Islamic Terrorism end by 2030?

Source: www.wupr.org
 By Olumide T. Agunbiade
According to the National Intelligence Council, terrorism will come to an end by 2030. And that seems reasonable. What room will there be for head chopping barbarians in the enlightened world of tomorrow where food comes in pill form, flying cars take you around the country in a minute and everyone follows international law? By 2034, the last murder will have taken place and by 2042, a scientific cure will be found for crime. By 2051, even bad thoughts will have been eliminated.
For me, by 2030, there will be countless emirates, many no more than small terrorist groups, but some of which control sizable territories. Mali shows us how a dedicated Islamist militia backed by oil money can create its own Afghanistan and now  we have the dreaded Boko Haram sect. And once it has its emirate, then like any good bunch of robber barons, the Islamist militia will take a cut of the drug trade, kidnap foreigners for ransom and shake down the international community for foreign aid.
By 2030 there will be a hundred miniature Afghanistans across Africa and the Middle East, with peacekeeping forces composed of a combination of local militaries and NATO troops trying to push them out. There will be drones over the skies of a hundred deserts fighting Toyota pickup trucks with bands of hooded men firing machine guns. There will be wire transfers from a dozen Islamic finance institutions wending their way from the great oil economies of the Persian Gulf, and American soldiers, most of whom will have more in common with the special forces operator than the infantryman, who have never seen a conventional war fought in their lifetime, heading in on another rescue mission in the territory of a Terror Emirate.

CRIME REDUCTION WITH USE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY IN NIGERIA: A CASE OF PORT AND CARGO TERMINAL,TINCAN ISLAND PORT, APAPA

Tincan Island, Lagos.
By Olumide T.Agunbiade

The level of notoriety in trade crimes in the Tin Can Island port has over the decades been   without bound. And it is not as if trade malpractices are not committed in other seaports, but the preference of Tin Can port in Lagos is what has baffled many. Often times, one would learn from customs agents advising their importers against routing certain goods through the premier port, Apapa, but the Tin Can port.

THE IMPACTS OF SECURITY ON THE ECONOMIC GROWTH OF NIGERIA : A CASE STUDY OF BORNO STATE

Terrorism in Borno State.
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Nigeria is one of the relatively secured nations in West African sub-region. In recent times, this endowed nation suddenly metamorphosed into an abode of serial bombing, hostage taking, armed robbery, cold-blooded killings and ethno-religious conflicts traceable to militant groups with conflicting ideological, political and religious agenda.

Among these militant groups are Niger-Delta insurgents, Campus cults, Bakassi Boys, Armed robbers, O’odua People’s Congress, Boko Haram et cetera.

In Nigeria, economic, religious and political grievances as given birth to violence and crimes that are currently threatening her existence and unity. Born of colonial origins, Nigeria is a mixture of ethno linguistic groups and religious traditions.
This diversity has historically posed a daunting challenge to governance and stability in Nigeria, considering that many people feel politically and economically excluded by the extremely weak and corrupt nation.

‘’Violence in Nigeria is not a new phenomenon, considering that even the 1959 independence elections organized by the departing colonial authorities were marked by violence and various crimes.

Chibok Girls:100 Days in Boko Haram's Den

www.agunbiadeolumide.blogspot.com
By Olumide T. Agunbiade
Back in April 16, 2014, about 230 school girls were abducted under the cover of darkness in Chibok by Boko Haram sect. Sadly, they are still under captive despite the daily global appeal for their release.
The reason that these terrorist group were able to capture such number of  innocent girls was because Chibok lack educational institutions and facts indicate that Government Secondary School, Chibok  is the secondary school in Chibok, Bornu State.
Sadly, 10 parents of the missing girls have been buried since the incident after their bravery in search of their children  failed while the government claims that the near-daily air strikes of the rebel forest stronghold could endanger the lives of the missing kids.

A SUMMARY OF THE HISTORY OF RADIO AND TELEVISION BROADCASTING

www.agunbiadeolumide.blogspot.com
By Olumide T. Agunbiade

INTRODUCTION
Radio and Television are the primary means by which information and entertainment are delivered to the public in virtually every nation around the world. The term broadcasting refers to the airborne transmission of electromagnetic audio signals (radio) or audiovisual signals (television) that are readily accessible to a wide population via standard receivers(Berker & Robert 1992).

www.agunbiadeolumide.blogspot.com
Broadcasting is a crucial instrument of modern social and political organization. At its peak of influence in the mid-20th century, national leaders often used radio and television broadcasting to address entire countries. Because of its capacity to reach large numbers of people, broadcasting has been regulated since it was recognized as a significant means of communication.

Youth restiveness in Nigeria has been a prominent issue in recent times. There has been an increase in the occurrence of acts of violence and lawlessness, including things like hostage-taking of prominent citizens and expatriate oil workers, as well as oil bunkering, arms insurgence, cultism, etc.
