The African Champions! |

The World cup tournament
has brought more misses than victories for the country’s Super Eagles.
Having featured in the
World cup tournament four times, Nigeria will make a fifth appearance in
Brazil.
The
team reached the FIFA World Cup round of 16 twice, in 1994 and 1998, an
impressive achievement for a team that was still finding its feet on that
stage.
But they failed to build
on that performance in 2002 and 2010, as they bowed out of first round.
With foreign coaches failing to deliver at the
previous world cup tournaments, a former player and the present coach of the
Super Eagles Stephen Keshi declared ‘We can win the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.’
The current African
nation’s champions who played a goalless draw with Iran will face Argentina in
Sao Paulo.
After two defeats to the
South American country in 2010 and 2002, Nigeria will also battle for the round
of 16 against Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The country waits with bated breath to see if
the demons haunting the Super Eagles will once again scuttle their bid for the
first ever World cup title, or if Stephen Keshi can lift the trophy as a coach
and mark the beginning of a new era.
